Need something unusual for the home? Want to stand out in a crowd? Bonanza is an auction site like no other: it focuses on quirky and unique items, as well as the more standard fare. That makes it a useful space for finding special items for birthdays, anniversaries or just general shenanigans. The site produces handpicked lists of items to give it a more personal feel, and you’ll find hand crafted goods as well as mainstream products.

Listing an item for sale is free, although you will pay a percentage of profits in fees. If you sell an expensive item (over $500) you’ll pay a lower percentage but there’s a base fee of $17.50. Subsequently you won’t be able to sell anything for free but it won’t cost you a thing if you don’t manage to make a sale.

Buyers can also check out a seller’s rating and add their own reviews to help others decide whether or not they can be trusted. Items can be listed in a range of categories or you can search for them easily. Of course there are great advantages to a unique site such as this for buyer: you can get something unusual, sometimes for a great price. However, not all items listed are particularly high quality and not everything is new, so you should make sure an item is how you want it before bidding.

If you find a seller you love, then you can add them to a list of favourite sellers and visit their stores at a later date. You can also post items on Facebook. Sellers may find they have a more captive audience since the items on the site aren’t just the usual products they’ll find anywhere else. This site is more likely to attract people interested in handycrafts than flat screen TVs. 

Since there are no subscription fees you can keep your account going for as long as you like, making occasional sales when you feel the need. This is particularly good if there are just a couple of things you’d like to sell. If you’re looking to make regular sales as a store and you’re hoping to sell digital products, then we recommend looking elsewhere as Bonanza has much more of a easy-come easy-go hippy vibe to it. Fees taken for sales are a little higher than some sites, but not significantly so, and for expensive items you’ll keep more of the profits than you might get on some mainstream auction sites. 

This site isn’t overflowing with features. Its great potential lies in its charm. It has a decent number of customers flowing through and, whilst it’s unlikely that you’ll reach as many people through using Bonanza as you might with the more popular sites, we do feel that the customers who come here are looking for a unique, perhaps even strange item to purchase or sell, so you have a more specialised potential market.
