Editor's Review:

If you’re looking for an auction site which allows you to sell within the UK, but you don’t have bags of money and you want plenty of selling options, eBid UK might be the website for you. There are free options in place, or you choose one of several paid choices. For a full understanding of the differences between the various packages, we’d recommend checking the eBid website, but for now let’s take a more general look at the site and what it has to offer.

As a free member, you can place bids, list items without paying fees, and sell items with interfrated PPPay.com checkout options for your customers. However, you will be charged 3% on the final value fee. If you wish to avoid having to pay a percentage of your profits, you can upgrade to Seller+, which allows you the ability to choose between 0% and 2% fees after sales. There are a wide range of further benefits to becoming a Seller+, including more payment options, the ability to create promotions and create private auctions. If you’re interested in those functions, then why not take a look at the site’s help section, which lists all of the options very clearly.

Becoming a Seller+ isn’t free, but then we think it also offers pretty good value, particularly if you plan on using the site for a long time. You can get a lifetime Seller+ contract for under £100, which works out great value if you use the site regularly for extended periods. You might, however, wonder why you would choose this website over a more popular auction site in the UK, such as Ebay. Well, the choice is yours of course, but there are a few integration options here which might persuade you. For example you can include items listed on Google Shopping and TheFind.com, as well as being able to have a greater level of control over who can bid in your auctions and how long an auction lasts.

Uploading a product is easy and you can include up to 5 photos, plus a video. The video option is a useful feature because it allows you to be a salesperson and make a bit of a pitch to customers. Meanwhile, buyers can rate a seller, allowing you to build a reputation or avoid dodgy characters. If you are a buyer, there’s no official policy on returns, which is something to be wary of and might put off a few people from using this site for purchasing expensive products.

Whilst the FAQ on this site is useful, there are no phone or live chat options which can be troublesome if you need help quickly. Generally, we thought that prices for upgrading to Seller+ were very fair and that you could get excellent value for money if you upgraded to the lifetime membership. The site is a little dowdy and there aren’t a great deal of options for buyers, but if you’re a seller you ought to find eBidUK functional and simple to use.
